Blue

Blue was born sometime in 2004. We rescued him from the Colorado Horse Rescue in Longmont Colorado. We picked him up in July of 2005. He is a Blue Roan, Peruvian Paso.
It is truly amazing how our animals come to us. We have 9 horses and a Mule and we didn't go out looking for any of them.

On Mother's day, May of 2005, our Parelli Study Group went to CHR during the Holistic Horse Event to do a demonstration. We all had a great time showing our relationship with our horses. I did a Bellydance on my horse Cricket after he had showed off for the audience. He just loves it when the crowd claps for him.

It was a great day and all went well. Jazkie asked us if we wanted to take a tour. I knew it could be trouble, but I couldn't say no. When I saw Blue, I just melted. He was so beautiful, but his eyes were sad. I knew he needed my TLC, but I also knew that I didn't need another horse.

I went home and tried to put him out of my mind. The next week I had a training session to do in Boulder and my Husband told me I should stop by CHR to check on Blue since I was passing by. I knew that was dangerous, but I couldn't help myself and of course I came home with adoption papers. I left them sitting on the Coffee table for a week and when Mark commented on them, I knew that was my cue to fill them out and send them in. Rachel called me the same day that she got my papers to okay us for the adoption.

June 3rd 2005 we loaded Whiskey, a colt that I had acquired from a Training trade, into the Trailer. Blue would need a buddy to ride home with. Several volunteers came to the trailer to see if I could load Blue but he just jumped in, anxious to go to his new home.
He settled right in and acted like he had been with us forever. We rented 20 acres of lush grass for him to eat and run.

Whiskey was about the same age as Blue so they would romp around, kick up their heels and run like the wind. They made great playmates. It didn't take long for Blue to fill out and get a healthy shine to his coat. I played the Parelli games with Blue. He really seemed to enjoy them and would meet me at the gate. At feeding time, we used feed bags so thery didn't have to share. Blue would come to me and stand beside me while he ate. If I moved away he would soon join me. He seemed to enjoy just being near me and I certainly enjoyed being near him.

Blue is a sweetheart. He is now 3 years old as of 2007 is always ready to stick his head in the halter or come to the rail so I can sit on him, bareback and bridleless. Needless to say, he will always have a home at Spirit Dancer Ranch.
