Jezabelle
Jez is a 2004 baby. We got her
in November of 2005. She is a beautiful Sorrel Peruvian Paso with long
and wavy mane and tail.
Her name was Lola, she was frail and her back legs were crooked. She had
a blank look in her eyes. I wanted to look the other way and pretend she
wasn't there. But she was and she needed someone to care. If I don't
care, who is going to?
I was supposed to do some training with her once a week. I would go to
her pen with a halter and lead rope. She was scared to death of the rope
and would coward away from me. I think her voice cords were damaged by a
rope. Her whinny sounded like a Nanny Goat. I didn't feel like I was
getting anywhere with her and would leave her pen with an ache in my
heart.
I approached Jacque with the idea of fostering Lola so that I could
spend more time with her. She said that usually didn't work very well
but she was also worried about Lola and decided to try it out.
We loaded Whiskey and Blue into the trailer and once again headed to
Longmont. Lola remembered Blue and was anxious to be with him. It didn't
take much to get her into the trailer for the ride back home.
At this point we had geldings in the pasture and Lola. She went into
heat right away and wiggled in front of all those boys. At that time we
changed her name to Jezabelle.
Blue watched over her like a Big Brother, never letting her out of his
sight.
In three days she was a different horse. We worked the tangles out of
her long mane and brushed her dull coat. We sang to her and told her she
was beautiful. We rubbed her all over with the rope. She was still a
little jumpy with it but improving all of the time. She even started
putting her nose in the halter. Jezabelle was enjoying the attention and
really started to bloom. Here eyes were getting a twinkle in them and
she was getting her own personality. Everyone was settling in quite
nicely.
Then one day we went to a land auction and bought 35 acres. Our Life
Long Dream has a home. The first thing we did was move the horses onto
their new home. They looked and acted like a herd of wild horses out on
the open prairie.
A change came over Jezabelle. She is full of life and energy. She knows
she is at home and loves to play and hang out with us and her horse
herd. She not only loves attention, but she asks for it from anyone who
comes near.
