Frequently Asked Questions
Q. I might be interested in coming to this show, but I have a gaited horse. Would I be able to enter any classes (doing a running walk instead of trot)? A: Of Course! We will not discriminate against a gait that the horse does naturally! We are not basing the judging results on the horse form (unless the horse is being fought against or in pain) we are judging on the balance lightness and communication between horse and rider. Q. What kind of a class is the English Flat or Western Flat? A. It is a rail class designed to test how you and your horse execute basic gaits. All riders will stay on the rail as the judges will call out specific gaits to you (depending on your level of entry) and will judge you on your lightness, balance and communication. Q. What kind of a class is the Riding Naturally? A. It is a pattern class, much like a dressage or reining test, designed to show your skills riding circles serpentines, going sideways and other tasks. These classes will be divided by level. Patterns for classes will be posted the morning of the show and the class's will be held after lunch to allow time to memorize the pattern. This class if based on riders one at a time. Q. What is the liberty class? A. In the liberty class, participants will all be in one arena and be asked to drop your halters once the gate is closed. This is a true test of your connection, bond and liberty skills. You will be asked to perform tasks by the judges and judged on how well the horse responds.
