Sienna

Born June 15 at 10:30 AM

Double Poco Bueno and Foundation Bred.

We were getting ready for a Challenge Play day when the neighbor called to say that he saw a baby on the ground out in the pasture.  We dropped everything and headed back to town, in record time.  When we got to the pasture, Coretta was still laying down and the Baby was still wet. She was a beautiful little sorrel Filly.

I had just returned from a "Light Hands Horsemanship Clinic" where I had met Dr. Robert Miller.  He had said that it was important to spend time Imprinting the baby.  I could milk some of the Colostrum from the Mare and put it in the baby's mouth so that I did not feel a need to rush.  When I did just that, the baby attached to me like I was her  Mother.  I thought that I had made a mistake.  The baby kept tying to come to me instead of her Mother.  I was pretty upset because I am always a nut case when it comes to my baby's.  Before long, the baby was happily nursing and walking around on unsteady legs, falling down and getting right back up.

She was such a pretty red color that I named her Sienna.  She was strong and healthy and full of herself.  She would let Paloma nurse and then push her out of the way and take over the nipple.  She would head butt her Momma out of the Beet Pulp and help herself.  I knew I=2 0would have to get a handle on her soon.  The day that she kicked at Paloma, I thumped her on the butt and backed her up until she softened.  She did not try to kick again and it seemed to strengthen our bond.

Her red color started turning white, everything but her head.  She is quite a picture!   When I go to the pasture she meets me part way, knowing that I can't keep my hands off of her.  I give her scatchins and play games with her.  She sticks her head in the halter and jumps in the horse trailer.  What more could a person ask for?
