Whiskey

Whiskey is the only horse that I have had that is not a rescue.  I was Training up at Masonville when I saw a beautiful Black Kentucky Mountain-Missouri Fox Trotter mix. He had such a gentle look about him that I fell in love with him.

The next week, the owner asked if I would consider trading Training for the yearling Colt, they wanted $2,000.00 for him.  Since I had just started with my Training business, I thought it was a great idea.  I brought Whiskey home the following week.

He was quite a handful at first but after a couple of weeks of playing the Parelli games with him, we had a great partnership.

The day that he turned 2 years old, I started sitting on him bareback while he was eating.  I touched and rubbed him everywhere I could reach.  He seemed to enjoy having me sit on him.  When I asked him to walk while I was on him, he acted like we had been riding forever.

We took him to Vedauwoo and Pawnee Buttes, he followed us on trail Rides with a saddle on him.  He was always ready and willing to go anywhere like a little kid on his first day of School.

As a 3 year old, I took him to a Manuel Trigo, Riding in Lightness, Clinic. It was mostly very expensive Andalusian type horses, but Whiskey held his own and did very well.  I got several great comments on him.

Whiskey handles like a 10 year old, very calm and willing.  When he canter's it feels like he has wings, smooth and wonderful!

To Whiskey, Life is an adventure.  Where ever you point him, he is anxious to go.  If there is water in the way, get ready for a swim because he does not even hesitate.

Whiskey is the first horse that I started and sold.  I never thought that I would sell him, but my niece fell in love with him and I believe that he fell in love with her also.

He now roams on 100 acres up around Horsetooth Reservoir.  I miss him, but I know he is happy at his new home with his girl.
